NBA.com Rookie Ladder

The Rookie Ladder is a free-flowing, constantly updated chart that ranks the 2013-14 rookies. If a rookie plays well, he climbs the Ladder. Play poorly, and he'll slide down a rung ... or two or three. The rankings are updated by NBA.com's Drew Packham. If you have an issue or have a question or comment, send Drew an e-mail. Kings' McCallum Makes His Point

LAS VEGAS, July 15 --The Kings' point guard job is up for grabs, and Ray McCallum is making his case here in Las Vegas.

McCallum, whom the Kings grabbed with the 36th pick in the draft, was more assertive in his second game, scoring 23 points in Sacramento's 80-66 loss to the Warriors.

"I'm just trying to be a little more aggressive," said McCallum, who played three seasons at Detroit before entering the draft. "I watched the film and a lot of times coming off the ball screen I could attack a little more and that's something I tried to do tonight was get in the paint."

McCallum -- who will be vying for playing time in a backcourt that features new addition Greivis Vasquez and returning guards Isaiah Thomas and Jimmer Fredette -- was crisp coming off screens and got to the foul line 12 times (making nine) with his aggressiveness.

"The thing about Ray is he's an extension of the coach on the floor," new coach Michael Malone said. "The second half he was much more efficient making plays and putting pressure on the defense."

Malone said, when asked about the crowded backcourt that "nothing is set in stone."

While No. 7 pick Ben McLemore has struggled through two games (8-for-35 from the field, 2-for-18 from three-point land), the Kings' second-round pick has shown a poise and confidence that could translate to playing time in the fall.

"The thing I loved about Ray McCallum tonight is that he became very aggressive," Malone added, saying that when it comes time to name a point guard, the "cream will rise to the top."

Dropped out: Solomon Hill

Just missed the cut: Solomon Hill

Note: I'll be in Las Vegas to cover all the Summer League action there, updating the Ladder nightly and contributing to the Hang Time Blog as well.

1
Kelly Olynyk : BOSTON CELTICS

Olynyk wrapped up an impressive run in Orlando with 12 points and seven boards in just 15 minutes of work. All told, he finished as the rookie leader in scoring (19.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg) on 57.8 percent shooting. Now, we'll just have to see if anyone in Vegas can overtake him for the top rung.

2
Victor Oladipo : ORLANDO MAGIC

Oladipo got the day off in Orlando's finale on Friday, but he did enough in four games to give Magic fans plenty of hope. The No. 2 pick averaged 19.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 5.0 apg while going 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. Oladipo did struggle with turnovers (4.8 per game) as he works to make the transition to the point, but the Magic have to be pleased with the early returns from their top pick, capped off by a game-winning jumper in his last game.

3
Cody Zeller : CHARLOTTE BOBCATS

For the second straight day, Zeller put up big numbers and looked polished doing so. With a variety of baseline and top-of-the-key jumpers, the No. 4 pick finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double. Through three games, he's averaging 16.0 points and 9.3 rebounds and looks more ready to contribute than does Bismack Biyombo, who is here playing with Charlotte as well.

4
C.J. McCollum : PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

After landing at No. 3 Saturday with his 22-point night, the Blazers' guard had another solid game Sunday with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. He finished 6-for-17 from the field (1-for-6 on 3s), but McCollum looks like a keeper for the Blazers. For now, the No. 10 pick sticks at the third rung, but I expect big things in the team's next few games.

5
Ray McCallum : SACRAMENTO KINGS

Not only did McCallum score 23 points Monday, but he also notched six steals, one off the Las Vegas Summer League record set by Brandon Jennings. McCallum was under control, only turning over the ball once in 31 minutes of action. If his teammates can start hitting their shots (ahem, Ben McLemore), his assist numbers should rise as well.

6
Michael Carter-Williams : PHILADELPHIA 76ERS

First, the bad news on MCW's run in Orlando: The Sixers guard missed a lot of shots. The Syracuse product was 23-for-85 (27 percent) from the floor, and hit just three of 19 3-pointers. He also turned the ball over too much (4.8 per game). The coaches weren't sweating the TOs, though, since he led all players in Orlando in assists (7.2).

7
Mason Plumlee : BROOKLYN NETS

Plumlee started out hot in Orlando before cooling off a bit. The Nets' big man finished strong, though, scoring 23 points with five rebounds and five assists in Friday's finale. He was aggressive on the boards and could contribute right away off the bench. And in case you missed it, he threw down possibly the best dunk in Orlando.

8
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope : DETROIT PISTONS

The Pistons' lottery pick started slow, but finished his Orlando run strong. In his last three games, KCP averaged 18.0 ppg on 47 percent shooting and looked more comfortable with each game. With a solid frontcourt in place (Andre Drummond was a beast all week), the Pistons' rookie should see plenty of opportunities from outside this season.

9
Deshaun Thomas : SAN ANTONIO SPURS

Based off the Spurs' success at finding gems late in the second round, it should be no surprise if Thomas pans out. For the third straight game, Thomas put up solid numbers, finishing with 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Through three games, the swingman out of Ohio State is averaging 17 points on 54 percent shooting and is 6-for-12 from behind the arc. The 58th pick looks comfortable and plays in control while showing off a smooth lefty stroke.

10
Reggie Bullock : LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS

After putting up 18 in each of his first two games, the Clippers' first-round pick scored 12 on 5-for-16 shooting in the Clippers' 77-65 loss to the Lakers. The No. 25 overall pick will need to step up in L.A.'s next two games if he hopes to keep a rung. For now, his grip is precarious, but the Clippers can be patient with their rookie, who could be a nice addition for L.A.'s second unit.
