A New Age Is Underway

HOUSTON - A new age of Rockets basketball has officially arrived.

After a whirlwind offseason that saw the team completely revamp its roster, the Rockets are embarking upon the upcoming season with a marketing campaign that fully embraces the sweeping changes of the summer – and all the excitement and enthusiasm that have been left in its wake.

Indeed, the franchise’s 2012-13 campaign is shaping up to be a veritable monument to the new-look Rockets and the ideals the team aims to represent. The season will usher in the Jeremy Lin era as the young, electric point guard looks to write the next chapter of his fairy tale story right here in Houston. Fellow free agent acquisition Omer Asik promises to bring a devastating dimension to the interior of the Rockets’ defense. And with a loaded rookie class featuring the likes of Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas, Rockets fans can expect to see an athletic, fast-paced and exciting brand of basketball night-in and night-out.

Meanwhile, the Rockets’ roster makeover isn’t the only hotly-anticipated act hitting the Toyota Center floor this season. Houston is also playing host to the 2013 NBA All-Star extravaganza, the league’s marquee event that is must-see for basketball fans worldwide. And to mark the occasion, Toyota Center is undergoing a $15 million facelift that includes high-definition video screens that will be the largest in any North American arena.

Yes, “new” is all the rage with the Rockets this year, including the new sports network, Comcast SportsNet Houston, that will be the exclusive home of the Rockets on TV, and SportsTalk 790 AM, the Rockets’ new flagship radio station.

The only thing that hasn’t changed: The team’s goal to bring a championship back to Houston.

“We’re entering an exhilarating new age for the organization," says Rockets Senior Director of Marketing Operations, Ken Sheirr, "with young, high energy, high-ceiling talent, a television partnership that will be a real information source and deliver a better broadcast, and a host of improvements to the arena aimed at delivering a must-attend experience. New roster, new stars, new network, new scoreboard, new entertainment. It’s the start of an exciting new chapter in Rockets history.”
