HOUSTON -- The Rockets found some extra help on the wing.
Bobby Jones, a second-year guard/forward, signed a 10-day contract with the Rockets on Tuesday morning.
Jones
will have an opportunity to earn himself a roster spot since the Rockets are seeking more depth at the wing positions after trading Bonzi Wells to New Orleans last week.
"It's an opportunity," Jones said. "Whenever you get a chance to make an NBA roster, you got to make the best of the situation. Hopefully, that's the case for me. I think they're interested in me. They wouldn't have me here if they weren't. I just have to show them my work ethic and how I can help the team."
The Rockets released Adam Haluska to make room for Jones. Haluska, a rookie from Iowa, was acquired from New Orleans last week as part of a three-team deal that brought Bobby Jackson to Houston.
Jones played 32 games this season between the Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlies.
During his last stop in Memphis, Jones averaged 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 15.2 minutes. Overall, the former University of Washington star has played in 76 NBA games. Jones began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he showcased his defensive prowness.
"My speciality is playing as a team player," Jones said. "I like to play defense and make it easier for everybody else. I'm unselfish. I like to run the court and speed the tempo up a little bit. But at the same time, I do whatever it takes to help my team win."
