HOUSTON
-- The 2006-07 Power Dancer team has been announced and according to team coach “Sweet” Susie Boudwin, Rockets fans will not be disappointed with this year’s squad!

On Friday, August 18, at the Memorial Hermann Wellness Center, Boudwin and the Rockets marketing group selected this year’s 22-woman team amongst a group of 52 extremely qualified finalists.

“The pool of talent was incredibly high this year,” Boudwin said. “Not only do we have a squad of outstanding dancers, but accomplished women as well. And the new team is already excited to begin performing for Rockets fans at Toyota Center and in the Houston community.”

The audition process began Sunday, July 30, as over 300 women came to Toyota Center in hopes of fulfilling their dreams of becoming a member of one of the NBA’s premier dance teams. Applicants learned a pop routine to Jessica Simpson’s “A Public Affair” in Round 1 and a hip hop routine to Ciara’s “Get Up” in Round 2. At the end of the day, 52 dancers were selected to advance to the finals training camp.

During the training camp, Boudwin, assistant coach D’Anne Schwebel and team captains Nicole, Carrie B. and Carrie M. led technique sessions and intense workouts, and taught two new routines – one a dance technique routine and another to K.T. Tunstall’s “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree.” According to second-year member Vanessa, “Training camp was exhausting, but we really did get to work with each other and learn from one another. Everyone got a test run of how much dedication you need to have to keep up with practices, and we also felt first-hand the kind of endurance and muscle strength we need to get through a game.”

Finalists performed all four routines at the finals before a panel of judges, and the new team was announced at the end of the night amidst much fanfare.

“I was thrilled to learn that I made the team again,” said Vanessa. “It is an honor I don’t take lightly.”

According to Boudwin, the new RPD group is already gearing up for the season and will begin practicing in September. Stay tuned for new pictures and updates as Rockets pre-season progresses.
