Inside the Dancers Studio

RPD rookie Ashley B. chats about her first season with the squad

Name: Ashley B.
Age: 23
Hometown: Houston
Occupation: Account Executive
Alma Mater: Texas A&M
Degree: Psychology
Seasons as RPD: Rookie!

Rockets.com: Why did you want to become a Rockets Power Dancer?
Ashley: Well, I am a Houston native so of course I have always loved the Rockets. Also, dancing has also always been a passion of mine. After finishing my last season as a dancer for Texas A&M basketball, I knew there was no way I could stop dancing any time soon! Fortunately, I was selected to be a member of a great organization which would allow me to continue my passion for dancing!

Are you a big basketball fan?
Ashley: I am now! I really wasn't growing up, but once I started cheering for basketball in college, I couldn't help but get into the game!  It's definitely an action-packed, entertaining sport!

Rockets.com: What has been your favorite moment, so far, as a Rockets Power Dancer?
Ashley: Definitely the Armed Forces Entertainment trip!  Two weeks of traveling in Europe performing at six different Army/Air Force bases was such an amazing experience!  It was also great bonding time for me and my new teammates!

Rockets.com: How was your experience during in the photo shoot for the RPD calendar? Ashley: Despite the fact that I had just come down with a cold and wasn't feeling too well, it was a blast! I had never been in a photo shoot like that before, so it was definitely an exciting experience for me.  Susie, our coach, and the rest of the people involved in the shoot really made it fun and stress free!

Have you had any embarrassing moments as an RPD?
Ashley: I don't really get embarrassed very easily, but I do recall one incident.  I was throwing t-shirts into the stands during a time out and one didn't quite get to the fans -- let's just say I had to pick it up (a few feet in front of me) and throw it again! I really need to learn how NOT to "throw like a girl!"

What was been your favorite dance routine through the first two months of the season?
Ashley: Wow, that's a hard question! There are so many that I loved, but if I have to choose one, it would be "Sexy Back" because I love Justin Timberlake and the dance was really fun to perform!

Are you a dunking dancer?
: I'm definitely NOT a dunking dancer. I'm a bit of a scaredy cat so when I "jump" on the trampoline so I don't really get too high! (Of course, that keeps me from reaching the basket!)

Rockets.com: Besides being a RPD, what do you do for a living?
Ashley: I am an outside sales representative for a mortgage lender. I call on mortgage brokers and loan officers, present them with our products, and write up pre-approvals for loans for their borrowers.

Are people surprised at the office that you're a RPD?
Ashley: I wouldn't say they are surprised, but they do find it interesting and have lots of questions -- the No. 1 being, "Can you get me tickets to the games?"

Do you ever get recognized in public as an RPD?
Ashley: Not that I know of. I'm sure there may have been a few times, but no one has come up to me in public and asked me if I was an RPD.  I'm sure it will happen before the end of the season!

What do you do in your free time, if you have any?
Ashley: I spend time with family and friends, work out, go to the movies, shop, do arts and crafts, and sleep!

Do you have a favorite activity?
I would have to say just hanging out with my family and friends. I like to just relax and enjoy our time together, even if it is doing "nothing."

Rockets.com: What is your favorite sports team?
Ashley: Houston Rockets (of course!) in the NBA, but Texas A&M basketball is my college team.

What is the greatest movie ever?
Ashley: The Notebook. It's not only entertaining and funny, it has such a great story and meaning behind it!

How about the best restaurant?
Ashley: Well, I really enjoy dining out, so I'll have to think about this one. I'm going to have to go with three: Carrabba's, Pappadeaux, and Sushi King--yummy!

If you could have dinner with anyone on the planet, who would it be and why?
Ashley: Oprah! She is such an amazing person with such a great heart!

Where do you want to travel and why?
Ashley: All over the world! The AFE trip really opened my eyes and made me want to see it all! I really want to go to Italy some day because that is where my ancestors are from. Oh, and of course Paris!

What do you expect to be doing 10 years from now?
Ashley: I hope to be happily married with children and established in a successful, fulfilling career.
