University of Phoenix and the Houston Rockets Celebration of Black History Month

As the Proud Education Partner of the Houston Rockets, University of Phoenix teamed up with the Rockets to celebrate Black History Month in two big ways.

First was the Black History Month Scholarship, which is in its third year. Through this program, one full-tuition scholarship was awarded which will allow the winner an opportunity to complete a master’s degree program at University of Phoenix.

Second was the recognition of six African-American community heroes. The winners, nominated by Rockets fans like you, were recognized at Rockets games throughout the month of February.

The final date for submitting scholarship applications and hero nomination forms was January 23rd.  Each scholarship applicant and hero nomination had to answer three essay questions. The applications and essays were then reviewed by a select group of panelists, with a winner ultimately chosen based on the panel’s review.
