When You Think About the Best, Think RPD…  The Rockets Power Dancers have long been fan favorites at Rockets games and in the greater Houston area for their tremendous energy, show stopping routines, and love for the game. In addition to the time they spend with fans at local events, the RPD have also been proud to represent the Rockets at international events in Hong Kong, Mainland China (6 tours!), the Philippines, Taiwan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Great Britain, and Turkey. Photos of the Power Dancers have been featured in Sports Illustrated and Maxim, and on si.com, yahoo sports, and nba.com.  Your hometown RPD were voted pro cheerleaders of the year by Complex Magazine, and perhaps most exciting of all, were shown on ESPN’s SportsCenter as a top five play of the day.

Behind the Scenes…  Founded in 1994, the 22 member squad performs at all home games and at numerous community, corporate and private events throughout the year. The Team has been led for the past 6 seasons by 6 year RPD veteran and team captain “Sweet Susie” Boudwin, who hung up her dancing boots in 2005 to coach & choreograph full-time for the RPD team.  The RPD coaching staff is rounded out with 5 year RPD vet and captain D’Anne Schwebel.  The Power Dancers are all full time students or professionals. Engineering, education, and marketing are just a few of the career choices of this year’s Power Dancers. The team rehearses several nights a week and performs at all Rockets home games.

Traditions…  Although not a superstitious group as a whole, the RPD squad does hold tight to a few traditions.  Every year, the group opens pre-season with all the veterans performing at the first game.  A few signature routines are brought back year after year, including the “player introduction” routine first performed during the 1994-1995 championship years, “Red Alert,” and “Back in Black.”  The RPD were the first NBA team to “bring back” custom dance boots in 2004, and still wear the one of a kind red and white boots with their signature uniforms.  Upon completing a second year, veteran RPD earn their own custom made RPD ring.  And last, the team also has a special pre-performance chant to pump up and prepare for the games – as for how it goes - well, you’ll have to audition to find out…
