Home State: Texas
Years as a Power Dancer: Nine
Occupation: Manager, Coach and Choreographer for the Houston Rockets Power Dancers and the Houston Comets Team NRG Dance Team
Favorite thing about the NBA: The relationships and friendships I have made over the years, and the memories we have shared during our time together in the NBA, as well as the awesome opportunity to be a help to team members when needed.
Hobbies/Interests: Bible Study, visiting family, drawing, designing, music production, and of course dance and choreography!
Favorite artist: I love to watch artists that incorporate dance into their music performances, i.e. Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, N’Sync. I also love to listen to Jacqui Velazquez and Plus One – great beat, and uplifting music.
Favorite place to visit: Any city with family in it. I absolutely fell in love with Rome, Italy this past summer.
Favorite movies: All the '80s Brat Pack movies, dance movies, and movies that make me laugh. Some of my favorites are True Lies, Liar Liar, Grease, and as of lately, Bring it On (I LOVE the choreographer character! He makes the movie!)
Most memorable Rockets moment: Winning the 1994 NBA Championship, and then traveling to London with the team to perform for the World Games Series. Also, trying to contribute as many positive experiences as possible and giving into the lives of the dancers hoping to add something uplifting, profound, and enduring to their lives as a result of being on the dance team.
Role model: Jesus Christ. What an awesome example of how to live our lives on a daily basis!
Other Accomplishments: Founded the Nationally Ranked Texas Aggie Dance Team while I was earning my Bachelor’s of Science at Texas A&M University. They now perform and are a part of every home Aggie basketball game (go check them out!). After graduation, I danced with the Dallas Mavericks Dancers for one year, and then moved to Houston to work with the Houston Rockets, and as of 1997, the Houston Comets dance team. I have also trained in New York and L.A. under choreographers who I respect greatly, and believe to be the greatest of our time. Most of all, I have been able to teach dance to many team members who have gone on and achieved great dance careers on their own - watching them grow and become marketable in the dance industry. What a blessing!
