HOUSTON - Call it “Extreme Makeover: Rockets Edition.”

The Rockets have teamed up with Reliant Energy to help Rebuilding Together Houston spruce up the Kashmere Gardens home of Marie Herndon; painting, replacing siding, making repairs, installing a new back porch, and adding hand rails to the front and back porches.

Demonstrating a true team spirit in a concerted effort to positively impact the local community, employee volunteers from the Rockets, Reliant and Reliant’s parent company NRG Energy – along with a significant amount of help from Rockets legend Robert Horry – combined to tackle the project that had been two years in the making.

It was at that time that Ms. Herndon had filled out an application with Rebuilding Together Houston to have her home renovated, never believing she would see the day when her request was actually accepted.

Fast forward two years and now she is the proud owner of a house that looks good as new.

The workday event is part of the Rockets Give Back program and the 2011 NBA Cares Community Caravan. Rebuilding Together Houston is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing home repair and renovation services at no cost to low-income homeowners in need, such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans, as well as people impacted by natural disasters.

Rockets Give Back is a year-long initiative that's part of the organization's mandate to make a difference in the community. Click here to find out more.
