Rockets Lend Hand To Houston Food Bank

Collective effort from Rockets helps Houston Food Bank Beat the heat

With the summer temperatures already soaring well into triple digits, the Houston Rockets put together a team effort to help the city beat the heat.

Monday afternoon, Rockets Head Coach Kevin McHale and CEO Tad Brown joined forces with Rockets legends Calvin Murphy and Robert Horry and 75 team employees to donate much needed water and food to the Houston Food Bank.

As the sweltering weather outside added further proof to the importance of their mission, the Rockets did their best to help the Houston community beat the heat by delivering bottles of Deja Blue bottled water donated by Dr Pepper as well as various other food supplies for Houstonians in need.

In addition to the donation, Rockets employees, corporate partners, suite holders and season ticket holders assisted with sorting donated groceries and preparing food boxes.

“We appreciate the opportunity to be here,” said Brown. “Our owner Leslie Alexander has a special place in heart for the food bank and the opportunity for Calvin, Robert, Coach McHale and myself to be here today, along with the other employees here with the Rockets is great because this gives us an opportunity to really give back.

“The Food Bank is the charity of the month for the Rockets. We’ve been our throughout the month delivering goods on behalf of our partners, Levy Restaurants today and Dr Pepper with Deja Blue Water. It’s really an important time because with the summer months coming up and the heat it brings, to be able to provide necessities for people throughout the Houston community is something near and dear to us.”

Monday’s event was part of the Rockets Give Back program, the team’s year-long initiative to make a significant positive difference in the community.
