2010 NBA Cares Week of Service

Rockets, Reliant Energy and NRG Energy Help Rebuilding Together Houston

Houston - NBA Teams and Players Celebrate Fifth Anniversary of NBA Cares by Making a Difference in their Communities

The Houston Rockets participated in a workday event on October 19th, 2010 in partnership with Reliant Energy and NRG Energy to help Rebuilding Together Houston as part of 2010 NBA Cares Week of Service.

Rockets center, Yao Ming, along with staff members from the Houston Rockets, Reliant Energy and NRG Energy helped finalize renovation efforts on the home of an elderly woman by painting and refinishing the exterior of the home.  The homeowner received repairs on all parts of her house through Rebuilding Together Houston, which included siding, soffits, doorways and windows.

This season, the NBA and its teams celebrate the five-year anniversary of NBA Cares, which the league and its partners launched on Oct. 18, 2005. Through the NBA Cares program, the league, its teams and players have donated more than $145 million to charity, completed more than 1.4 million hours of community service, and created more than 525 places where kids and families can live, learn or play.

Beginning Oct. 18 and continuing through Oct. 25, NBA teams and players will host a variety of hands-on service events in a continued effort to give back to children, families and the community, as well as increase fan awareness about the importance of service. With assistance from community members and partners, the NBA family will support health, education and environmental-awareness efforts through several projects throughout the week.

Rebuilding Together Houston is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing home repair and renovation services at no cost to low-income home owners in need, such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans, as well as people impacted by natural disasters.
