HOUSTON ROCKETS ALL-STAR READERS CONTEST
OFFICIAL RULES

1. ENTRIES. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER. The Houston Rockets All-Star Readers Contest (the “Contest”) is open to elementary students in the first and second grades who reside within 75 miles of the Houston city limits. The Contest begins on March 24, 2004 and ends on April 21, 2004 (the “Contest Period”). To register the elementary school, complete and return the All-Star Readers Registration form to the Houston Rockets, Attention: All-Star Readers Contest by fax (713.758.7358) or by regular mail to Toyota Center, 1510 Polk, Houston, Texas 77002. The first one hundred and fifty (150) elementary schools to return the registration form will be allowed to participate; registration forms must be received or postmarked no later than March 17, 2004. Teachers in registered schools must then return the students’ completed All-Star Reading Records, which are available from the Houston Rockets and/or at the Houston Rockets’ website, www.rockets.com, by regular mail to the Houston Rockets, Attention: All-Star Readers Contest, Toyota Center, 1510 Polk, Houston, Texas 77002. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED OR POSTMARKED BY 5:00 p.m. CST ON APRIL 23, 2004. STUDENTS MAY PARTICIPATE ONLY THROUGH THEIR SCHOOLS/TEACHERS (individual students are not eligible to enter or participate, except through their registered schools/teachers). LIMIT ONE (1) ENTRY PER STUDENT. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules.

2. SELECTION OF WINNERS. Teachers will provide information about the Contest and All-Star Reading Records to students. Eligible students must select and read four (4) non-school assigned books to read at home during the four-week Contest Period (one book per week). Reading done during school or as part of assigned homework does not satisfy the Contest’s requirements. Students must read books or have their reading monitored by a parent, guardian or other adult. Students must record the books they read on the All-Star Reading Record. A parent, guardian or other adult must approve the All-Star Reading Record, with their signature evidencing that the student has read each book listed. Students must return their completed All-Star Reading Records to their teachers on or before April 21, 2004. Teachers will complete the information below and mail all completed All-Star Reading Records to the Houston Rockets, with mailing postmarked no later than April 23, 2004. No individual, student All-Star Reading Records will be accepted (i.e. they must be submitted by a teacher). A parent or guardian of all Grand Prize Winners shall be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, Prize Acceptance and Publicity Release documents in order to receive any prize. The Houston Rockets have the right to verify all information contained in an entry and may disqualify any entrant if his or her entry is not truthful.

3. PRIZE DESCRIPTION; ODDS OF WINNING. Each student who completes an All-Star Reading Record, which is approved and submitted by a teacher in accordance with the Contest (and who is not a Grand Prize Winner in the random drawing described below) will receive a Rockets Read to Achieve certificate of achievement and a bookmark (total approximate retail value of all certificates and bookmarks awarded: $2,000.00). In addition, each student who completes an All-Star Reading Record, which is approved and submitted by a teacher in accordance with the Contest, will have the opportunity to participate in a drawing during which members of the Houston Rockets organization will randomly select Grand Prize Winners who will receive the following: i) one (1) student from the eligible students in each participating school (or up to one hundred and fifty (150) students) will win one (1) Polaroid JobPro Camera and one (1) twin pack of Polaroid film (approximate retail value of each camera and film package: $73.99); ii) one (1) student from all eligible students will win a pair of Steve Francis autographed basketball shoes (approximate retail value: $150.00); iii) five (5) students from all eligible students will win a 2003-2004 Houston Rockets commemorative single player autographed pennant (total approximate retail value: $100.00); iv) eight hundred (800) students (to include the eligible classmates of the randomly selected winner) will win a Rockets Read to Achieve wallet (total approximate retail value: $1,160.00); v) two hundred fifty (250) students will win a Rockets drawstring bag (total approximate retail value: $407.50); vi) one (1) of the participating elementary schools will receive a school rally featuring the Houston Rockets mascot, Clutch (approximate retail value: $675.00); vii) twenty (20) teachers in the participating schools will receive a Houston Rockets t-shirt (based upon their students’ participation in the Contest) (total approximate retail value: $60.00) and viii) two hundred fifty (250) students (to include the eligible classmates of the randomly selected winner) will win a 2003-2004 Rockets team poster (total approximate retail value: $125.00). The odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible entries received and class participation. The Houston Rockets will notify the participating elementary schools/teachers of the Grand Prize Winners after the random drawing. If the school/teacher is unable to contact the Grand Prize Winners after two attempts, then such winner will forfeit any rights to a prize and another random drawing will be held to select a replacement winner. Winners may not assign, transfer, or substitute prizes. Non-cash prizes cannot be redeemed for cash value. Winners will be responsible for federal, state and local taxes associated with the prize package. The Houston Rockets may substitute prizes of equal or greater value for the prizes described herein.

4. ELIGIBILITY. The Contest is open to elementary school students in the first and second grades who live within 75 miles of the Houston city limits; provided that employees and immediate families (spouses, parents, siblings and children) of employees of the Houston Rockets, the National Basketball Association and its members teams, NBA Properties Inc., and each of their respective parents, members, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, governors, employees, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies are not eligible to enter. The Contest is void wherever prohibited or restricted by law.

5. LIMITATIONS ON LIABILITY. The Houston Rockets shall not be responsible for entries that are incomplete, illegible, stolen, misdirected, lost, late, damaged, or postage due. All entries become the property of the Houston Rockets and will not be acknowledged or returned. By entering, each entrant agrees to HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY the Houston Rockets, the National Basketball Association, and its members teams, NBA Properties Inc., and each of their respective parents, members, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, governors, employees, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all liability, damages, claims and causes of action (however named or described) with respect to or arising out of (a) entrant’s participation in this Contest, and (b) the receipt and/or use of any prize awarded herein.

6. CONSENT TO USE. Each entrant hereby agrees and consents, without further authorization, compensation or remuneration of any kind, to the publication of entrant’s name and/or entry in any medium, whether now known or hereafter developed, including without limitation, the Houston Rockets website and in any and all advertising, promotions, and other publicity conducted by the Houston Rockets, and/or the National Basketball Association, and its members teams, NBA Properties Inc. and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries and affiliates except where prohibited.

7. CONTEST RULES. All decisions as to contest rules and interpretations are exclusively within the sole discretion of the Houston Rockets and may be changed from time to time without notice. The Houston Rockets reserve the right to cancel or modify the contest at any time without notice.

8. DISPUTES. Entrants agree that any dispute or cause of action arising out of or connected with the contest shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by arbitration, which will be conducted in Houston, Texas in accordance with the Commercial Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association.

9. FORCE MAJEURE. The Houston Rockets shall not responsible for the failure or interruption of www.rockets.com or the Houston Rockets e-mail server or the cancellation, postponement, or interruption of a Houston Rockets game for any reason including, but not limited to, equipment failure or malfunction, electrical service interruption, or act of God.

10. WINNER’S LIST. To obtain the names of the winning classes and/or students, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Toyota Center, c/o the Houston Rockets All-Star Readers Contest, 1510 Polk Street, Houston, Texas 77002 on or before May 1, 2004.
