Rockets All-Star Readers

Attention TEACHERS in the Greater Houston area:

The Houston Rockets invite your 1st and 2nd graders to participate in All-Star Readers, a new contest in which students must meet the following challenge: read four books at home, one book per week during the four-week contest period (March 24-April 21, 2004) with help from a parent or guardian.

All students who meet the All-Star Readers challenge will be entered into a random drawing to win one of the following Grand Prizes:

  • 150 students - one child from each participating school (limit 150) - will win one Polaroid JobPro Camera & Twin Pack of film
  • one school will win a Reading Rally starring the Houston Rockets mascot, Clutch
  • one student will win a pair of Steve Francis autographed shoes
  • five students will win a Houston Rockets single player autographed pennant
  • 800 students will win a Rockets Read to Achieve wallet
  • 250 students will win a Rockets team poster
  • 250 students will win a Rockets drawstring bag
  • 20 teachers will win a commemorative Rockets T-shirt for their students’ participation in this contest!

All students who become part of the All-Star Readers Team by meeting the All-Star Readers Challenge and who are not awarded a Grand Prize will receive a Rockets Read to Achieve Achievement Certificate and bookmark for their reading success.

All-Star Readers, sponsored by Polaroid, is a new Rockets Read to Achieve program. The All-Star Readers program encourages children to spend more free time reading and choose their own reading materials, and involves parents or guardians in monitoring their children’s reading time and interests.

Teachers’ time commitment to this program is minimal. In March, teachers will receive the All-Star Readers program flyer to review and send home with students, as all reading for this contest must be completed at home. At the conclusion of the program, teachers will collect and return by mail all students' Reading Records in one package by the program deadline, and await the arrival of All-Star Readers prizes. (“Official Contest Rules” provided on the All-Star Readers program flyer).

To enroll your first and second grade classes in the All-Star Readers contest, print out, complete and return the All-Star Readers Program Registration Form for your school today! Please note—the All-Star Readers program is limited to the first 150 schools that return the All-Star Readers Registration Form. The deadline for your school to return this form is Wednesday, March 17, 2004.

For more information, please review the Official Contest Rules.

Good luck, and we look forward to your school’s participation.
