Summary
A year ago at this time there, were so many questions about the Grizzlies. Not the least of which was: What were they thinking when they traded for Zach Randolph?
Then Randolph went out and reminded everyone just how good he can be when he keeps his head on straight and focuses on playing the game. Put Z-Bo on a frontline with Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay for a second straight year -- and hopefully get some kind of contribution out of Hasheem Thabeet this time around -- and the Grizzlies could really challenge for a playoff berth.
So much of the credit goes to coach Lionel Hollins, who made the players accountable for themselves and that has produced an atmosphere of responsibility in the locker room and on the court. His next trick is to get them playing defense.
The most glaring weakness remains at point guard, where Mike Conley keeps outlasting all of the other candidates, but hasn't yet proven that he's the guy who can lead them to the next level.
But a year after all of the snickering, the Grizzlies are no joke.
