Frontcourt
D+
Alex Len is the lottery-pick center but also coming off double-ankle surgery, so Marcin Gortat is not the automatic goner most assume. But there are immediate openings at both forwards.
Backcourt
C-
The Suns traded for Chris Paul understudy Eric Bledsoe with an eye on playing Bledsoe and Goran Dragic together as double point guards. The wish list still includes a dependable shooter.
Defense
F
Signs of a turnaround, from one of the worst units in the league, are hard to come by. The coaching change will spark party lines of a new emphasis.
Bench
B-
There is a luxury to having Dragic and Bledsoe at point guard plus Gortat and Len's potential at center. Depth could be among the least of the Phoenix problems.
Coaching
Inc
Never mind that Jeff Hornacek would be one of the best three-point threats on the shooting-starved Suns. He steps into a difficult job with preparation, intelligence and playing experience.
Summary

This is the latest new day in Phoenix, the one with the new hope for the future. Like the last one, in other words. Only not.

The 2013 version has a new coach, a new GM, two 2012 first-rounders (Miles Plumlee and Kendall Marshall), two '13 first-rounders (Len and Archie Goodwin) and the possibility of five No. 1 picks the next two drafts, depending how protections play out. The Suns will be a safe choice for last place in the Western Conference, but also have a reason to believe in what comes next.
