No longer overshadowed by Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap, youngsters Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter finally have their chance to play big minutes. Swingman Gordon Hayward has to hit 3s. Ranks are thin elsewhere.

BckCourt
Jazz will encounter serious issues here. Rookie point guard Trey Burke likely steps right into the fire with Alec Burks starting next to him. Brandon Rush has to produce with hope undrafted rookie Ian Clark is a find.

D-

Defense
Hard to get much worse than last season, but big man Kanter will protect the rim better than Jefferson and with Favors the paint is on pretty solid ground. The perimeter, however, will be a significant issue all season.

C-

Bench
Really, the Jazz have no one player to hang their hat on in any category. With Warriors' salary-cap castoffs and other spare parts, the Jazz could possess the least-productive bench since last season's Trail Blazers.

F

Coaching
Tyrone Corbin had the tough task of replacing coaching legend Jerry Sloan, but he's done little to differentiate himself as a difference-maker. With a paper-thin roster, he has an opportunity to overachieve.

Summary

The Jazz didn't find deals pleasing enough to trade Jefferson or Millsap last season and lost both during free agency for nothing. The only apparent hope here is to be in the mix for the No. 1 pick. This summer's first-rounder Burke had a rough initiation during summer league, which didn't inspire great confidence.

Not only did scoring and rebounding walk out the door with Jefferson and Millsap, but so did veteran leadership, for whatever that was worth for a team that faded down the stretch and missed the playoffs. With a potential starting five of Burke, Burks, Hayward, Favors and Kanter, and little behind them, expect the Jazz to hit a sour note.
