 A choppy opening couple months of injuries has given way to improved health but the same search for answers, with Andris Biedrins and in general. Dorell Wright is a terrific addition.

 Monta Ellis, always a talented scorer, has become more mature and more comfortable playing with Stephen Curry in a season of commendable strides. Curry remains a talent with a great future.

 For all the moves to address the problem area, the Warriors remain near the bottom in shooting defense and defensive rebounding. There are statistical improvements, but only slight.

 The lack of depth remains the same area of concern as the start of the season. One solution: don't use the bench so much. Ellis is averaging 40.8 minutes, Wright 39.

 Keith Smart got the difficult assignment of improving the defense when the roster didn't add many defenders. That might get him sympathy, but it won't necessarily get him the job next season.

Summary
In what figured to be a transition season anyway -- new owners, new coach, new mega-bucks acquisition (Lee), new lottery pick (Udoh) -- the Warriors have yet to make a definitive move to the future. They remain as they were before, a fun team to watch on offense, especially with Ellis' progress and Curry beyond the rookie learning curve, but unable to slow the opposition enough to get into the playoff hunt. That non-development is a bad development.
No Pacific Division team is harder to assess at midseason, though, because no one had their system-wide turnover combined with early injuries combined with a soft schedule that made it impossible to gauge the meaning of an upbeat opening record. To bury a roster with Ellis, Curry and Lee as the foundation and a rejuvenated Wright as an important piece would be a mistake this soon. But this is clearly not what a passionate fan base, a group that for too many years has been told to be patient, was promised.
