Summary
With the contracts of Elton Brand and Andre Iguodala still taking up almost half the salary cap, the Sixers aren't completely ready to move forward. Ideally, Iguodala, who turns 27 in January and is one of the league's best individual defenders, is part of the long-term plans. But he's got value around the league and the Sixers may be better off with more financial flexibility.
For the time being, the Sixers are making due with what they have and developing their young backcourt of Holiday, Meeks and Turner. Taken with the second pick in the Draft, Turner has been somewhat of a disappointment. And when Collins replaced him in the starting lineup with Meeks at the beginning of December, it sparked a run up the standings.
But the Sixers lost their momentum with a tough stretch of schedule and an injury to Iguodala. They've settled into eighth place in the East, where 35 wins might get you into the postseason.
