The Toronto Raptors announced Monday their 15-man roster for Samsung NBA Summer League 2015 in Las Vegas. First-round draft pick Delon Wright along with current Raptors Bruno Caboclo (cuh-BO-clo) and Lucas Nogueira (new-GAY-ruh) will headline this year’s squad. Assistant coaches Jesse Mermuys (MER-miss) and Jama Mahlalela (MAH-la-lee-lah) will serve as the team’s coaches.
Wright was named the 2015 recipient of the Bob Cousy Award for the nation's top point guard. A first-team All-Pac-12 and All-Pac-12 Defensive Team selection, Wright averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.1 steals in 35 games last season. As a junior, he contributed 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.5 steals in 33 contests earning first-team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honours.
Caboclo returns to NBA Summer League after averaging 11.4 points (second on the team), 3.0 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 26.0 minutes in five games last year. He scored in double digits in all five contests. During his rookie NBA regular season, Caboclo averaged 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 2.9 minutes in eight appearances. Caboclo scored eight points and grabbed one rebound in his NBA debut Nov. 21 vs. Milwaukee.
Nogueira will make his third appearance in Las Vegas at NBA Summer League. He averaged 5.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 20.2 minutes in five games with the Raptors’ entry last summer. Nogueira appeared in six contests during his rookie NBA regular season, averaging 1.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.5 minutes. Nogueira participated in NBA Summer League 2014 with Atlanta.
Twenty-four teams will participate in a tournament-style format to crown this year’s NBA Summer League champion. Teams will compete in three preliminary round games from July 10-14, before being seeded in a tournament running through the championship game July 20. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games.
This year marks Toronto’s eighth appearance at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas (2006, 2008-10, 2012-14). The Raptors finished NBA Summer League 2014 with a 2-3 record and hold an overall mark of 17-18 (.486) at the event. Toronto opens the preliminary round Friday, July 10 versus the reigning Summer League champion Sacramento Kings at Thomas & Mack Center (3 p.m. PDT / 6 p.m. EDT).
