Casey Named Eastern Conference Coach Of The Month

The National Basketball Association announced Monday that Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey has been named NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January. Casey is the only coach in franchise history to earn the honour multiple times – November 2014 and December 2013.

Toronto finished January with a 12-2 (.857) record, which included a franchise-best 11 consecutive wins to finish the month (Jan. 6-30). The Raptors ranked third in East scoring averaging 105.6 points, while holding opponents to 97.4 points (third-best in the NBA). During the 11-game winning streak the Raptors defeated five opponents with winning records and won by an average margin of +11.7 points.

The Raptors began the month making a season-high 15 three-pointers during a 104-94 victory Jan. 1 vs. Charlotte. The team then matched a season-high with four consecutive road wins Jan. 6-14, which included an NBA Global Game in London, England against Orlando. After returning from London, the Raptors swept a seven-game home stand (Jan. 18-30) for the first time in team history.

Casey joined the Raptors as head coach June 21, 2011 and led the team to a franchise record 49 wins last season. He holds the franchise record for coaching victories with 186 wins and has a .518 (186-173) winning percentage in five seasons with Toronto. Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers was named Western Conference Coach of the Month.
