Rogers, TSN Reach Agreement on TSN2

May 18, 2009

Rogers Cable subscribers will soon be able to catch Raptors action on TSN2.

The cable provider and TSN have finally come to an agreement over the distribution of digital channel TSN2, which aired 24 Raptors games this season.

Rogers subscribers will get a free preview of TSN2 on Rogers digital channel 1 starting Tuesday. The channel will be available to Rogers Digital VIP cable subscribers at the end of the month.

"We are thrilled to have a deal in place to bring TSN2 to Rogers customers," said TSN president Phil King in a statement.

The agreement ends months of negotiations between the cable giant and the television network that left many Canadian sports fans caught in the middle. TSN2 launched on Aug. 19, 2008, but wasn't picked up by Rogers. That left subscribers without access to exclusive content aired on TSN2, including Raptors basketball games.

Rogers, which owns the Toronto Blue Jays, avoided a potentially awkward scenario where its customers wouldn't have access to its own team's television broadcasts for a key series between the first-place Jays and the Boston Red Sox, which begins Tuesday.
