(March 27, 2007) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday that forward Jorge Garbajosa had successful surgery this afternoon to repair a displaced left ankle joint with ligament tear and fractured fibula. The surgery was performed at Toronto Western Hospital by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Johnny Lau, with the assistance of Raptors Medical Director Dr. Paul Marks.
“We are pleased with the reduction of the fracture and restoration of his displaced ankle joint,” said Dr. Marks. “Everything is restored to an appropriate anatomic position, and we will now await post-operative recovery and healing of the soft tissue and fracture.”
Due to the soft tissue component of the injury, recovery time is estimated in the range of six months.
Garbajosa sustained the injury at the 4:31 mark of the fourth quarter in last night’s game at Boston. He remained overnight at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.
