Sprite Named Presenting Sponsor of Raptors Invitational Tournament

(September 5, 2003) - TORONTO --- The Toronto Raptors announced Friday they have acquired Sprite brand soft drink as the presenting sponsor for the inaugural Raptors Invitational Tournament which runs October 24-26. The deal runs through the 2007-08 season. Per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

The Raptors Invitational Tournament is an initiative spearheaded by the Toronto Raptors Basketball Development department, geared to promoting the high-calibre talent of university and college basketball programs in Ontario.

“The Raptors have a history of support for university and college basketball in this province,” said Senior Vice-President and General Manager Glen Grunwald. “Sprite is a founding partner of the Toronto Raptors and we are excited to have them sign on with the Raptors Invitational Tournament.”

A total of sixteen teams - representing both men and women, will participate in the three-day tournament. The men’s bracket will take place at Humber College while the women’s side will be held at Ryerson University. Preliminary rounds will be played at the campus athletic centres on October 24 and 25 with the championship games scheduled for the main court at Air Canada Centre on Sunday, October 26.
