Raptors Acquire Matt Bonner And Select Remon Van de Hare

(June 26, 2003.) - TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday they acquired the draft rights to forward Matt Bonner from the Chicago Bulls for a future second-round draft pick.

Bonner, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward from Florida, was selected with the 45th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. The Raptors used their own second-round selection, 52nd overall, to take centre Remon Van de Hare.

Bonner averaged 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in 131 career games. He is the only Gator to record 1,500 points, 750 rebounds and 150 three-pointers.

As a senior, he averaged a team-best 15.2 points and was second on the team at 6.1 rebounds. He led the Southeastern Conference in three-point field goal percentage (.474). He earned All-Southeastern Conference First Team honours.

Bonner averaged a career-best 15.6 points in his junior season en route to a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection. As a sophomore, Bonner contributed 13.3 points and a career-best 7.6 rebounds, fifth in the conference.

Van de Hare, 21, a 7-foot-2 centre from the Netherlands, has played the past two seasons with F.C. Barcelona (Spain).

In the first round, the Raptors selected Georgia Tech forward Chris Bosh with the fourth overall pick.
