From The Country To The Court
October 20, 2010
It is 8:00 p.m., on a Sunday evening and I don’t think I could be more tired! We had our third preseason home game today against the Suns, and we won! I am new to the Dance Pak team this year and thought I would share with you some of my thoughts during my first week on court.
First of all, I would like to say that I could not be more proud to be apart of the Raptors Dance Pak. This whole experience is showing me why I have chosen this as my career; the thrill of being in front of a huge crowd, the excitement of the game, and the support given by everyone involved.
On Wednesday Oct. 13th, I left my classes early at school to meet at the ACC for 3:15. The rookies all got their new I.D. cards so we’re now officially “staff”. We then headed for the court to run through our rehearsal. I was nervous just for the rehearsal process, I guess because I didn’t know what to expect out of anything. I then became more nervous for game time because I forgot how many things there are to think about while performing: stand up straight, smile, remember choreography and spacing, as well as keeping the hype up for the crowd. As rehearsal continued many of these thoughts were put at ease due to practicing like crazy! I was finally beginning to feel prepared for game time and was able to minimize the butterflies in my tummy!
I am currently studying Commercial Dance in post-secondary education so I am certainly getting my fix of dance classes and performances between school and the Dance Pak. Although juggling these two schedules leads me to pure exhaustion I can’t help but to step back and take a moment to recognize how privileged I am to be here today. Fresh out of High school into college and now dancing for the Raptors. I certainly didn’t foresee this in my future, but I like where life is taking me!
Bye for now, but see you soon!
