The Halfway Mark
Jan. 31, 2011
We are now roughly half way through our 2010/2011 season, and I feel it’s time to share some of my thoughts about being a part of the Raptors Dance Pak for my first season.
I’ve realized a number of things over the last few months, the first being that this job is so much more than a job. It means that many of us, who are pursuing other careers and areas of study, can hold onto our passion for dance. For many dancers, I think that moving on can be a difficult transition, one I having been diligently avoiding for a few years now. The fact that I am able to continue to perform so often, and in such an outstanding environment means the world to me and makes this the best job ever!
When I found out I made the team last summer I was eager to meet the girls and get started. I could not have guessed that the girls would be some of the most kind, compassionate and talented people I would ever meet. The friends I have made, in the few months I have been a part of the team, I will treasure for years to come.
Being a part of the team has also taught me some important things about myself. The main and most important thing it has taught me is to be more assertive. Especially after seeing how confident some of the girls are when it comes to trying new things and just going for it.
Leadership and confidence play such a large role in this job, therefore one of my New Year’s resolutions was to make myself more assertive and confident as a leader not only in my job but in my everyday life. I look up to the girls on the team and admire them for the strong, confident, brilliant women they are.
Mostly, this blog is a shout out to my team. Girls, not only have you made these past few months so memorable for me, but you are some of the most amazing people I have ever met and I am so proud to be a part of this team! This is one year of my life I will remember forever!
