Now in its eighth year, the Toronto Raptors Read To Achieve program is committed to promoting literacy and a life long love of reading to all children.Through our free in school programs, Read To Achieve had 50,000 students participating in literacy based activities during the 2007-08 season. All of our participating schools are automatically eligible to participate a Read To Achieve visit with our players throughout the season.

    October 2008 – March 2009
    Grade 1-12

    The Overtime Readers Club, formerly known as Team up for Literacy offers the opportunity to reward students who are dedicating their extracurricular time to reading and literacy efforts. The club is a great way to incorporate the Toronto Raptors into your school’s literacy activities.

    Teachers are encourages to get their school involved by starting a new literacy initiative from scratch or simply continuing an already existing program. All registered classes will receive prizes after registration which can include:
  • Raptors game tickets
  • Autographed merchandise
  • Raptors gear (bags, headbands, t-shirts, etc.)
  • Books
  • These prizes are designed to be used as motivation and rewards for participating students. All students will also receive a certificate of participation at the end of the season.

    Here are some of the suggested program ideas that past schools have participated in:
  • Book Clubs/Book Circles
  • Basketball and Book Club – combining physical activities and reading sessions
  • Boys Book Clubs – targeting reluctant readers
  • ESL Reading Groups
  • Homework Clubs
  • Mentoring/Tutoring Programs


  • Note: All initiatives and activities must utilize students’ extracurricular time and must devote at least 2 hours per week to the program.

    Grade 1-8

    With over 34,000 participants last season reading Time Out is our biggest and most popular program. Teachers are encouraged to begin a read-a-thon that tracks the number of pages, books or minutes read by their students.

    This season we’re making it even easier to get involved by offering online registration and result submissions. All participating classes will receive bookmarks, posters and certificates of participation for all students.

    Results are due on the following dates:

    Starting in January students can submit group or individual projects on their Black History Heroes. Winners will attend a Raptors home game in February and be recognized on court for their work.
