To celebrate the Basketball New Year, we assembled a Player Panel (composed of Ray Allen, Ron Artest, Mike Bibby, Richard Hamilton, Amare Stoudemire and Ben Wallace) and asked these hoop-stars to talk about the good ol' days of funky haircuts and old-school kicks, as well as their resolutions for the new season.
| OCT. 25: WHAT IS YOUR BASKETBALL NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION? | |||
| Ray Allen: | "To have patience. You tend to want things fast. You want to win, you want to score, do everything on the court. You just have to be patient. We have a lot of young guys, so being patient is going to be key." |
| |
| Ron Artest: | "To get a ring." | ||
| Mike Bibby: | "Try to help my team do whatever I can to help my team win." | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "To be better than we were last year." | ||
| Amare Stoudemire: | "To better my basketball IQ." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "Stay consistent. Stay healthy." | ||
| OCT. 22: WHO'S BETTER LOOKING: KENNY OR CHARLES? | |||
| Ray Allen: | "Neither one of them." |
| |
| Ron Artest: | "I'll leave that to RuPaul." | ||
| Mike Bibby: | "I'll say neither." | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "Neither!" | ||
| Amare Stoudemire: | "Oh man. I'd go with none of the above, but Barkley's my guy. I'll go with Barkley." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "It's a toss-up." | ||
| OCT. 22: WHAT CLOTHING ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE CHARLES? | |||
| Ray Allen: | "The thing about Charles is he has nice suits. He has quality suits made by quality designers, but he has trouble matching and with coordination. But you can tell the suits look nice." |
| |
| Ron Artest: | "I want to see him in a true warrior shirt … a true warrior button up." | ||
| Mike Bibby: | "He usually wears suits, jackets with shorts. He's gotta wear the whole suit. I know he can do better than that." | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "Wear socks with your shoes, please." | ||
| Amare Stoudemire: | "To get some dress socks and dress shoes." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "You can wear what you want to wear, especially when you're in a position where you can talk about everyone else and no one can talk about you. Do whatever you do." | ||
| OCT. 22: WHAT SHOULD CHARLES' NEW YEAR'S (BASKETBALL) RESOLUTION BE? | |||
| Ray Allen: | "It should be to find some good ties to wear with his suits." |
| |
| Ron Artest: | "To give honest answers to his picks for awards. Sometimes he goes with a person who's not always accurate." | ||
| Mike Bibby: | "To work on his golf game. Tell him I'm coming for him." | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "To lose 30 pounds." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "I thought one time, Charles was ready to make a comeback. So, I think he should fool everybody again and go in the weight room and work out and slim down a little bit." | ||
| OCT. 21: WHAT WAS YOUR BEST OR WORST HAIRSTYLE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG? | ||
|
Ray Allen: "I had a couple of 'em. The worst hairstyle I had was the bowl cut, where my dad was cutting my hair. He just wanted to be creative and he cut a line all the way around my head and he left a little hair and carved my initials in it: R and A. And I went to school the next day, and I looked crazy. The kids at school drew a picture and put a little head and a little bowl around the head."
Mike Bibby: "I had a little Afro when I was a kid. My mom said I didn't like to get a haircut, but she wouldn't let me. I used to have a curly-haired Afro. It was fine." Richard Hamilton: "The best, definitely, was the high-top fade. I was always trying to let that thing grow as high as Kid N' Play. I had it about 11 inches high. And the worst one was the curl, the s-curl, my mom put in my hair, and I had to wear the bag every night in third or fourth grade." Amare Stoudemire: "I had the Gumby-type, where it's high right, low left. That was my favorite. It may not be the best look, but it was my favorite."
Ben Wallace: "I think it had to be the 'wop.' When you've got your hair cut to one side, so you've got it leanin' to one side. It was the best and the worst." | ||
| OCT. 21: WHAT OLD-SCHOOL JAM BEST DESCRIBES YOU? | |||
| Ron Artest: | "'Gloria' by Enchantment. My mother played it and I love it." |
| |
| Mike Bibby: | "I like 2Pac's 'Only God Can Judge Me.'" | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "2Pac, 'All Eyez on Me.' The whole album." | ||
| Amare Stoudemire: | "2Pac is my favorite artist. A lot of his songs describe me, I can't pick just one." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "'I'm Bad' by LL Cool J." | ||
| OCT. 20: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE OLD-SCHOOL BASKETBALL SHOES? | |||
| Ray Allen: | "The ones I have on now. The Air Jordan IX." |
| |
| Ron Artest: | "It's probably the Dr. J Converse. I played in them my rookie year. Actually, I played in them my first two years." | ||
| Mike Bibby: | "I like the Jordan XIII." | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "Reebok Pump because that was the first shoe that pumped air ... it wasn't a plain shoe. It gave you a little extra. It gave Dee Brown a little extra in that dunk contest." | ||
| Amare Stoudemire: | "The old Barkleys. The Force. I liked the strap on the shoes, they were a pretty smooth pair of Nikes. Plus, I was a fan of Charles Barkley." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "Converse Weapons." | ||
| OCT. 20: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THROWBACK UNIFORM OF ALL TIME? | |||
| Ray Allen: | "I don't really have one, I'm more of a suit guy." |
| |
| Ron Artest: | "Probably a Bill Russell or B.J. Armstrong. Dennis Rodman would be a good one. And of course, Michael Jordan." | ||
| Mike Bibby: | "My long-sleeved Tommy Nobis Falcons jersey is my favorite. It's black and red. I wish I had a Derrick Thomas too. I like the cut and color." | ||
| Richard Hamilton: | "My favorite is, well, I have a lot of them. I want to get another George Gervin, though. That's one I say to myself, 'I gotta get that one.' The one I have is too small." | ||
| Amare Stoudemire: | "A Dr. J jersey [is my favorite] and one I'd like to have is MJ ... No. 23." | ||
| Ben Wallace: | "I'm not big on throwback jerseys. I have an old Dr. J jersey, so I guess that would be one. I like throwbacks, but I don't think they look good on me." | ||
