Teri Berg's Raptors-Magic Game 5 BlogThe Orlando Magic defeated the Toronto Raptors, 102-92, on Monday, and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time since 1996.
Dwight Howard led the Magic with another 20-20 performance - his third in the series - notching 21 points and 21 rebounds. Rashard Lewis also posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Hedo Turkoglu, who was named Most Improved Player earlier in the day, registered a near triple-double with 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
The Raptors were led by Chris Bosh, who scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Carlos Delfino and T.J. Ford chipped in 14 points apiece, Jason Kapono added 13 and Jose Calderon 12.
In eliminating the Raptors in five games, the Magic won their first playoff series since reaching the Eastern Conference finals in 1996. In 1995, Orlando went all the way to the NBA Finals but was swept by the Houston Rockets.
Toronto previously made the playoffs in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2007 but was eliminated in the first round in three of those appearances. The only time the Raptors won a first-round series was in 2001, when they beat the New York Knicks in five games.
The Magic will meet the winner of the Detroit-Philadelphia series, which is now tied at 2-2.
