Playoffs Mailbox: Tracy McGrady

McGrady
You watch the games, you see the scores, but how do you really know what's going on in the NBA Playoffs 2003? NBA.com has infiltrated the action with the ultimate insiders -- the players themselves. We're giving you an exclusive look at the postseason with a roster of player mailboxes.

Tracy McGrady is one of the league's superstars. This season, he led the league in scoring at 32.1 points per game. McGrady answered your questions on Tuesday, April 22:

Q: Tracy, great season this past year winning the scoring title. I am wondering how do you prepare for the playoffs physically and mentally? Great Game 1 against Detroit -- keep up the good work.
-- Robert (Louisville, Ken.)

McGrady: Playoffs are completely different. Everything is more intense, so you have to be extremely focused. I’m determined to get us out of the first round this year.

Q: What is your mindset this year, since your team is full of finesse and your opponents are a bangin' team? Detroit is very defensive while you are an offensive team.
-- Ged (Manila, Philippines)

McGrady: This is a very winnable series for us. We came out and proved that we can play with the team that’s the best defensive team in the league. And we did it without a lot of guys contributing on the offensive end. As far as being physical, whatever they want to do, it doesn’t matter. It won’t be new to me or my teammates.

Q: You are one of the most exciting players of the league, and your team will depend on your play. Which of your teammates do you think will need to play best for your team to go to the second round?
-- Stefano (Pagona, Italy)

McGrady: We need contributions from everyone. All of our guys need to step up their game in order for us to advance. If we spread everything around, it’ll be great for us.

Q: Who, in your opinion, is the most dominant offensive player in the playoffs? Is it yourself, or maybe an Allen Iverson or Paul Pierce?
-- G. Smoke (Bronx, N.Y.)

McGrady: A.I. – He was so hot the other night, it was scary. He is such a tremendous player, especially in the playoffs. My man just plays hard every night.
