Made his first NBA start at San Antonio (4/12), scoring a career-best 17 points with seven assists and three rebounds in 40 minutes. Dished out a career-best eight assists vs. New Orleans (2/11). Scored a career-high 16 points (5-6 shooting) in 16 minutes vs. Milwaukee (12/29). Made his NBA debut in the Thunder’s third game of the season vs. Denver (11/1), dishing out three assists and picking up one steal in four minutes. Ten games of double-digit scoring. Helped the Racers to a 29-6 season, which included an OVC championship and a 25-game winning streak (second-longest in the nation). Scored 30+ points on three occasions.
Freshman (2013-14): Averaged 16.8 points, 5.4 assists and 1.7 steals. Ranked 33rd in the nation in assists per game. Named AllOhio Valley Conference First Team and Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. Earned a MSU record nine OVC Freshman of the Week awards. Selected to the OVC All-Tournament Team. Voted NABC All-District 19 and College Sports Madness Freshman of the Year for the mid-major level. Named Tournament MVP. Shot 40.4 percent from the field, 77.4 from the line and 34.1 percent from three-point range.

Son of Tony and Leshawn Payne. As a high school senior at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, was rated the 41st-best point guard in the 2013 recruiting class by Helped lead Lausanne Collegiate to the Tennessee 2A Private School championship. Named Mr. Basketball & Tennessee Sports Writer’s Association All-State. Named to the Memphis Commercial Appeal Best of Preps All-City Team three times.
