COLLEGE CAREER:
Finished his collegiate career as one of two players in Atlantic Coast Conference history, along with former North Carolina/NBA guard Phil Ford, to record more than 2,000 points and 600 assists in a career… Upon leaving Georgia Tech, he was ranked among the top six in school history in points, assists, minutes, 3-point field goals made and steals… As a senior, he was named an honorable mention All-American by The Associated Press… He was also named the top college player in Georgia by the Naismith Awards committee and was a second team All-ACC selection… He was a three-time All-ACC honoree… As a junior, he was a second team All-ACC choice…Led the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio and free throw percentage… Ranked second in assists, third in steals and fifth in scoring in the ACC…earned ACC Player of the Week honors a league-record five times…As a sophomore, he earned third team All-ACC honors…Was selected to the ACC All-Tournament second team… As a freshman, he ranked in the top five in the ACC and second on the Yellow Jackets in assists.


PERSONAL

Full name is Travis Eric Best… His mother named him after a movie character that got away with stealing $1 million… As his mother, Bobbie, and his father, Leo, left the movie theater, his father suggested that if they had a boy, they name him "Travis" after the character because he was going to be a $1 million baby… Is the youngest of five children… Majored in business management at Georgia Tech… Enjoys resting and watching movies in his free time… Lists the Godfather Trilogy as his favorite movies… Spent the summer of 1997, filming Spike Lee’s He Got Game, along with Denzel Washington… In addition to basketball he also enjoys football and boxing… Likes to listen to R&B, hip-hop and jazz music… As a high school senior, he was a first team Parade Magazine All-America choice… Was a second team choice as a junior and also named to the McDonald’s All-America Team, a prep All-American by Converse and a second team All-America by Basketball Times… Was the first three-time recipient of the John Lahovich Award (symbolic of Western Massachusetts’ top high school player), an award his father won twice in the 1950s.
