Born August 17, 1986 in Baltimore, Md… Attended Archbishop Spalding High School in Baltimore… Parents are Rudy Sr. and Rae Gay… Has four siblings – one brother, Eric, and three sisters, Brett, Yozmin and Candace… Competed as a member of the 2005 USA Men’s U21 World Championship team in Summer 2005, averaging 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in eight games… Extremely active in the community, won NBA Cares Community Assist Award for March 2010 after helping raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital… Majored in liberal arts at UConn… Is close friends with 2007-08 NBA Rookie of the Year Kevin Durant… Enjoys playing Xbox 360 in his spare time… “Martin” is his favorite television show… His favorite movies are any of the Friday series… His favorite rapper is Jay-Z… Says the best advice he has ever received is from his mother, who told him to “be humble” when he started playing basketball… Says his grandfather is his hero… Favorite player growing up was Michael Jordan… Interested in assisting in cancer research… Joined NBA All-Stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul at the Chris Paul Professional Bowlers Association Celebrity Invitational in Sept. 2008 to raise money for charity… Hosted the 12th Annual SportsBall in Aug. 2009 in Memphis, a black-tie affair benefitting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Memphis… Participated in the Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Distribution at STREETS Ministries in Memphis in Jan. 2009, washing the feet of several children and presenting each child with a new pair of Nike athletic shoes… Along with Marc Gasol and O.J. Mayo, took part in the Grizzlies Read to Achieve celebration in Feb. 2009, speaking to over 5,000 children at FedExForum on the importance of reading… Along with Mike Conley, served Thanksgiving meals to the teens at the Youth Villages Boys Shelter in November 2008, also providing them with new Grizzlies’ coats…Along with Zach Randolph, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, hosted Staxtacular 2012, his fifth consecutive year hosting the fundraiser benefiting the Stax Music Academy… Hosted a holiday shopping spree for a third consecutive year at Target in December 2011, providing children from single parent homes from Memphis Athletic Ministries the opportunity to purchase toys and other gifts for Christmas.
