He averaged 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds in just 21.3 minutes per game, appearing in 49 games, 13 of them as a starter. He ranked third on the team in rebounding despite his limited minutes and was a solid complement to starters Vlade Divac and Anthony Mason ... Geiger scored in double figures 18 times, including six of seven games from March 21 to April 5. That streak included a season-high 25 points in a 116-115 loss to Indiana on March 28, and a season-high 13 rebounds in a 115-113 win over Philadelphia on April 5 ... Geiger averaged 2.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game in the Hornets' three playoff losses to New York.

    1995-1996:
Geiger turned in a solid season for the Hornets after coming over in the Alonzo Mourning trade on Nov. 3, setting career highs in almost every statistical category ... He averaged 11.2 points per game and led the Hornets by shooting .536 from the field, 11th best in the NBA. He also tied for the team lead with 8.4 rebounds per game, which tied for 27th in the league. He averaged 30.5 minutes in 77 games, missing two games each due to a lower back strain and a sprained left ankle and one because of the trade ... After moving into Charlotte's starting lineup on Jan. 6 against Atlanta, he averaged 12.9 points and 9.6 rebounds in 33.8 minutes per game in his final 47 games, leading the team in rebounding in 25 of those games and 34 times overall. He had a career-high 28 points against Denver on Feb. 16 and a career-high 21 rebounds against Philadelphia on Jan. 27. He had 25 games with 10 rebounds or more and six with 15 rebounds or more, and logged 19 double-doubles ... Geiger also became more of a defensive presence as the season wore on. After blocking only seven shots in his first 22 games, Geiger blocked 56 in his final 55 games to finish with a career-high 63 blocks for the season.

    1994-1995:
Geiger continued to show improvement in 1994-95, his third season in the NBA. He set career highs by appearing in 74 games for the Miami Heat and averaging 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds. His rebounding total was third best on the club, and he led the team in field-goal percentage at .536. He also blocked 51 shots, 4 more than he had recorded in his first two seasons combined ... Geiger split the starting center duties with John Salley. In his 43 starts Geiger contributed 10.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He pounded the boards for a season-high 12 rebounds on four occasions. His best all-around game came against the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 5, when he scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds ... Geiger missed eight games during the year, three because of a bizarre injury. In mid-November the team's flight hit a severe patch of turbulence on the way to Philadelphia and Geiger suffered a ruptured eardrum. He also sat out three games with a pulled left groin muscle and a pair of contests with the flu. The Heat finished at 32-50 and missed the playoffs.

    1993-1994:
One of 10 Miami Heat players to average at least 10 minutes, Geiger established himself as a quality back-up post player in 1993-94. Playing regularly behind Rony Seikaly and John Salley in the Miami frontcourt, he appeared in 72 games, averaging 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting .574 from the floor ... Geiger scored a career-high 23 points on two occasions-against the Clippers at Los Angeles on January 8 and versus the Detroit Pistons on March 29. He also pulled down a career-best 14 rebounds against the Warriors at Golden State on January 12. After having qualified for the playoffs for the second time in the club's six-year history, Miami faced the Atlanta Hawks in the first round and lost in five games. Geiger saw action in two postseason contests, scoring 1 point and grabbing 4 rebounds.

    1992-1993:
The Miami Heat selected Matt Geiger in the second round of the 1992 NBA Draft after Geiger had teamed with future NBA players Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott, Jon Barry, and Malcolm Mackey at Georgia Tech. He averaged 11.8 points on .611 shooting from the floor as a senior ... Geiger made the Heat's roster and appeared in 48 games as a rookie, averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game. He collected 18 points in 16 minutes at Dallas on December 8.

    COLLEGE:
The Massachusetts native spent his first two years of college at Auburn and gained some recognition as a member of the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team in 1988. He then moved on to Georgia Tech, where he posted double-digit scoring averages in both of his seasons and recorded the second-highest single-season blocks total in Yellow Jackets history. Only future Heat teammate John Salley had ever rejected more shots than Geiger's senior-year total of 65.
