BACKGROUND

After playing college ball at Providence, Marty Conlon carved a niche for himself in pro basketball as a backup center and forward for seven NBA teams in the 1990s, as well as teams in the CBA and Italy. Conlon finished his career at Providence ranked 18th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,135 points. He was named to the All-Big East Third Team as a senior after starting all 29 games and averaging 14.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, both career-highs. He was voted the Friars' most valuable player as both a junior and a senior. After being bypassed in the 1990 NBA Draft, he played for the CBA's Rockford Lightning in 1990-91 and averaged 13.4 points and 7.0 rebounds in 41 games. He made his NBA debut with Seattle in 1991-92, appearing in 45 games and averaging 2.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. He played for Sacramento the next season, averaging 4.8 ppg and 2.7 rpg, then split 1993-94 between Charlotte and Washington of the NBA and Rockford of the CBA. He enjoyed his best NBA season in 1994-95 with the Milwaukee Bucks, playing all 82 games and averaging 9.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He logged 2,064 minutes, far more than in his first three NBA seasons combined. Conlon spent one more year with Milwaukee, averaging 5.3 ppg and 2.4 rpg, before being traded to Phoenix on September 25, 1996. He was cut by the Suns just prior to the start of the season and hooked on with the Boston Celtics, for whom he averaged 7.8 ppg and 4.4 rpg in 1996-97. After playing five games in Italy, he signed with Miami on February 22, 1998 and played in a total of 25 games over the 1997-98 and 1998-99 NBA seasons.
