Kwame Brown made history as the first high school player ever selected with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft. Along with other fellow high-schoolers selected in the 2001 NBA Draft, he did not flourish in his rookie season but appears to be prepared for a break-out second season. Athough young, has a well-developed body and a maturity beyond his years and that with his range of skills should allow him make a mark on the NBA before it is all said and done.
2003-04:
Led the Wizards in rebounding (7.4 rpg)...Set new career-highs with 30 points and 19 rebounds versus Sacramento on 3/17/04 en
route to his 18th double-double of the season...Grabbed 15 rebounds vs. Orlando on 01/28/04...Tied a career-high by dishing five assists versus Portland on 01/26/04...Scored 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds versus Indiana on 01/24/04...Hit his first career three-pointer with .4 second left
in the first half against Dallas on 11/5/03.
2002-03:
Averaged 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game…led the Wizards in rebounding 11 times, blocks three times, and steals six times…finished ranked 36th in the NBA in blocks per game (1.0)…Scored in double figures in 35 games…Had three games with 20 or more points…Had seven games with 10 or more rebounds…Recorded five double-doubles…Scored a team-high 17 points and had eight rebounds at Philadelphia on 4/16/03…Tied a career-high with 20 points and had eight rebounds at Milwaukee on 1/30/03…Tied a career-high with 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds at Chicago on 1/2/03…Scored a career-high 20 points and had a career-high six blocks to go with six rebounds vs. Boston on 10/31/03…Had a career-high 18 rebounds and had 12 points and five blocks at Toronto on 10/30/03.
2001-02:
Averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game...Scored a career-high 14 points vs. L.A. Finished Glynn Academy as the school’s all-time leading rebounder (1,235) and shot blocker (605) and his 1,578 points rank him second all-time in scoring, 39 points shy of the school record…Played in and started a school record 102 games…Led Glynn Academy to an 81-21 record from 1997-2000…2001 McDonald’s All-American (17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal)…Named to the USA Today All-USA Basketball first team…Named to the Parade Magazine All-America High School Boys Basketball First Team…One of five high school seniors named First-Team All-American by The Sporting News…2001 High School Player of the Year in the state of Georgia…Averaged 20.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.8 blocked shots, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals as a senior.
