Full name is Fredrick Kristian Hoiberg
Played college basketball in his hometown of Ames, Iowa
As a sophomore at Iowa State, he received three write-in votes in the 1993 Ames mayoral election and was tabbed by famed college basketball analyst Dick Vitale with the nickname “The Mayor”
Played baseball, football and basketball in high school
As a senior, he was named Iowa’s top high school football and basketball player, and led Ames to the Iowa state basketball championship
Was offered a football scholarship to Nebraska by legendary college football coach Tom Osborne
Enjoys playing golf in the offseason and would have attempted to be a PGA pro if he didn’t play pro basketball
Would choose to play with PGA Tour pro Fred Couples if given the opportunity to play golf with anyone
Eats a jar of pickles at the end of each training camp
Says his most memorable moment as a pro was hitting a game-winning three-pointer versus the Hornets in his rookie season
Says Larry Bird’s nickname, “The Hick from French Lick,” is the best he’s ever heard
Besides getting drafted by Indiana in the second round of the 1995 NBA Draft, he was the number one overall selection of the Cedar Rapids Silver Bullets in the 1995 CBA Draft
Met his wife Carol in high school and the couple has four children: Paige, Jack and twins Sam and Charlie
