Born July 27, 1986 in Birmingham, Ala… Full name is DeMarre LaEdrick Carroll… Name is pronounced Deh-MAR-ay… Son of Cynthia and Edward, who is a preacher at Perfecting Kingdom Church in Birmingham… Earned the nickname “Junkyard Dog” because of his intense work ethic… Nephew of Missouri Head Coach Mike Anderson… Graduated from Missouri in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in human and organizational development and is currently 15 credits away from earning his master’s degree in human development and family studies… Led John Carroll Catholic High School (Birmingham, Ala.) to two-straight state championships (2003 and 2004)… Became the first player in the history of the school to have his jersey (No. 32) retired during a ceremony in Aug. 2009… Attends same Birmingham church as “American Idol’s” Ruben Studdard… Overcame a liver disease to become a top player in the Big 12 Conference… Shot in the right ankle while serving as a peacemaker in a dispute in Columbia, Mo. during the summer of 2007… Faced current teammate and former Connecticut star Hasheem Thabeet in the 2009 NCAA West Regional Final… Along with teammates at the University of Missouri, hosted a basketball camp for over 60 Special Olympics campers in Nov. 2008… Hosted the DeMarre Carroll Next Level Basketball Camp at high schools in Alabama and Missouri in June 2010. |
