BACKGROUND

A member of the 1987 NCAA National Champion Indiana Hoosiers, Dean Garrett spent eight seasons playing pro ball in Europe before finally breaking into the NBA in 1996-97.

2001-02
Appeared in 34 games, averaging 1.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 5.4 minutes combined between Minnesota and Golden State...Was acquired from Minnesota along with a future second-round draft pick in exchange for Marc Jackson on 2/21...Played in five games with Golden State (1.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 6.2 mpg), with 24 DNP-CDs...Tied or led Warriors in blocks once...Played season-high 15 minutes in season finale vs. L.A. Scored a season-high eight points Feb. 22 vs. Golden State, and pulled down a season-best eight rebounds Nov. 24 vs. Portland.

Played in 49 games, drawing a DNP-CD on April 28 vs. Phoenix that snapped his consecutive-games streak at 175 ... Reached double figures on 11 occasions, with a season high of 22 on Feb. 15 at Golden State ... His 11 FGMs in that game also tied a career best ... Shot 60.6% (43-for-71) over his last 15 games ... Blocked a season-high six shots April 14 at San Antonio ... Posted his lone point/rebound double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds Feb. 25 at New York.

1997-98
Signed as a free agent with Denver on Sept. 5 ... Was the only Nugget to start all 82 games and one of only two to play in every game ... Led the Nuggets in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and blocked shots (1.62 bpg), and averaged 7.3 ppg ... Had 10+ rebounds 22 times, including 15+ four times ... Scored a season-high 18 points vs. Atlanta on March 6 ... Grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds against Sacramento on Nov. 25, and had a season-high six blocks against Toronto on March 19 ... Posted 16 double-doubles.

1996-97
Concluded his first NBA season as the league's oldest rookie, having turned 30 on Nov. 27 ... Started Minnesota's final 44 games at center, and appeared in 68 games overall ... Averaged 10.6 ppg (on 59.9% shooting) and 9.0 rpg after joining the starting lineup ... Tied the franchise single-game record by grabbing 20 rebounds Jan. 31 at San Antonio ... Set a franchise single-season record for field-goal percentage by shooting 57.3%, breaking Doug West's mark of 51.8% set in 1991-92 ... Was the Wolves' leading rebounder 23 times, and recorded 14 point/rebound double-doubles ... Ranked second among NBA rookies by averaging 7.3 rpg ... Committed just 34 turnovers on the season (one every 49.0 minutes) ... Tied Kevin Garnett's single-game rookie record by blocking seven shots vs. Boston on March 16, and finished the season with 95 rejections ... Led Minnesota in scoring twice, with a season high of 25 at Vancouver on Feb. 19.

COLLEGE
At Indiana, Garrett earned a reputation for being a solid scorer and tireless rebounder for Hoosier coach Bob Knight. He averaged 11.4 ppg and 8.5 rpg during that, his junior season and his numbers jumped to 16.1 ppg and 8.5 rpg during his senior year (1987-88) at Indiana. His efforts were noticed by the Phoenix Suns, who made Garrett the 38th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft.
