Saw his senior season cut short in the 11th game of the season when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee in a game against Utah on December 29, 2001. After undergoing a strengthening program for the muscles around his knee, he underwent surgery on January 29. Prior to the injury, he was leading the team with 15.8 ppg, while adding 7.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots. He led the team in scoring in five of his 11 games and in rebounding in five of 11 games. He scored a team-high 26 points and added 11 rebounds in an overtime win over Stanford on Dec 1. Had team-highs of 18 points and 16 rebounds in a win at UNLV on Dec. 22. Scored 21 points vs. Oregon State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Prior to the injury, he was one of 50 preseason candidates for the Wooden Award. As a junior, named Second Team All-Big 12 by conference coaches and media, and was also named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team, Big 12 All-Tournament Team and Preseason NIT All-Tournament Team. He averaged 14.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots (21st in nation). His 92 blocks was a Texas single-season record, and he posted nine double-doubles. He led the team to an overtime win at Oklahoma State with 24 points and 12 rebounds. As a sophomore, was inserted into starting lineup in mid-February, and saw his averages rise to 9.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks (7th in Big 12) in 23 minutes of playing time. He was fourth on the team in scoring, third in rebounding and second in blocked shots. Scored 16 points on 7-for-7 field goal shooting in Texas’ first round NCAA win over Indiana. Sat out the 1998-99 season after transferring from Tulane. As a freshman at Tulane in 1997-98, averaged 6.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots in 20 minutes per game.
