Shaw continued to fill the role of third guard and occasional starter for the Magic in 1996-97, when he averaged 7.2 points, 4.1 assists and
2.5 rebounds per game and sank 63 three-pointers, the second-highest total of his career ... He played in 77 games and made 31 starts,
averaging 8.2 points and 5.2 assists as a starter ... He scored in double figures 20 times, with a seaon-high 17 points in a 92-81 loss at the
Lakers on Dec. 6 ... He had 10+ assists four times, with a season-high 11 assists in a 95-93 loss at Vancouver on Dec. 13, and led the team in

He posted his first career triple-double agaisnt the Clippers on Dec. 29 when he got 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, all in just 28
minutes off the bench ... That made him the first NBA player to post a triple-double off the bench since Detlef Schrempf did it on Feb. 13,
1993 ... He had a double-double at the Clippers on Dec. 5 with 11 points and a season-high 10 assists and got another in his only start at
Cleveland on Jan. 6 when he had 13 points and matched his season-high 10 assists ... His production tailed off in February and March,
partially due to tendinitis in his right wrist that sent him to the injured list March 10-22, but bounced back to average 8.2 points per game in

1994-1995:
Shaw signed with the Orlando Magic on September 22, 1994 ... In his sixth NBA season he gave the Magic a versatile backcourt reserve,
coming off the bench behind Anfernee Hardaway and Nick Anderson ... His potent outside shot and strong defensive skills proved
crucial to Orlando's march to the NBA Finals ... For the season, Shaw averaged 6.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per
game ... His assists average ranked second on the team and 22nd in the league ... He struggled from the field, however, shooting just .389
overall and .261 from three-point range ... Shaw had his best outing on April 8 against the Philadelphia 76ers, when he started in place of
Hardaway and tallied 15 assists, 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block ... The Magic won the Atlantic Division and then captured the Eastern
Conference title by whipping the Boston Celtics, the Chicago Bulls, and the Indiana Pacers in the playoffs ... The Magic were swept in
four games by the Houston Rockets in the NBA Finals ... Shaw, one of six Orlando players to appear in all 21 postseason games,

1993-1994:
Shaw was able to play the 1993-94 season with the Miami Heat only by summoning a lot of courage and relying on his inner strength ... In
July 1993 both of his parents and his sister were killed in an auto accident in Nevada, and later that same month Reggie Lewis, his close
friend and former Boston Celtics teammate, died of a heart ailment ... Shaw managed to put his basketball life in perspective, however,
dedicating the rest of his career to his family, who surely would have been proud of Shaw's efforts in his fifth NBA season ... The
versatile guard started 52 times in his 77 appearances and contributed 9.0 points and 5.0 assists per game ... The Heat established a
franchise record for victories in a season (42), and Shaw played a major role in the team's success, ranking second on the club in assists
and sixth in scoring ... On February 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers he mustered a season-high 27 points, and against the Cleveland
Cavaliers on March 15 he recorded a season-high 15 assists
1992-1993:
Shaw developed his three-point-shooting touch this season, hitting 43-of-130 from long range ... Prior to the season, he had hit only
8-of-63 three-pointers in his entire three-year NBA career ... He finished the year averaging 7.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 68
games ... Shaw etched his name in the NBA record books when he hit 10-of-15 three-pointers in a 32-point effort against Milwaukee on
April 8 ... He set a league record for most three-pointers in a single game, breaking the mark of 9 previously held by Dale Ellis and
Michael Adams
1991-1992:
Sidelined for the first month of the season with an injured right hamstring, Shaw appeared in 17 games for Boston before the Celtics
traded him to the Miami Heat on January 10 for Sherman Douglas ... Shaw started 23 of 46 games with Miami, averaging 7.0 points, 3.5
assists, and 2.9 rebounds for the Heat in 21.5 minutes per game ... For the year he posted averages of 7.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.2
rebounds per contest ... He stepped up his play in Miami's three playoff games, averaging 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists
1990-1991:
Shaw returned to the United States and the Boston Celtics after a one-year professional stint in Italy ... He played and started in 79 games
for the Celtics, averaging 13.8 points and 7.6 assists, both career highs ... He led the team in assists while ranking second in steals, with 105,
behind Larry Bird's 108 ... Shaw dished for a career-high 17 assists against Miami on April 12 ... In the playoffs, he averaged 11.0 points in
11 games, helping the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they lost to the Detroit Pistons ... His best playoff outing came
on May 11 against Detroit, when he had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in 30 minutes of a Celtics victory
1989-1990:
Shaw received a lucrative offer from Il Messaggero Roma of the Italian League and played the entire season in Italy, teaming with fellow
American Danny Ferry ... He averaged 25.0 points and 9.1 rebounds for Il Messaggero, shooting .584 in 30 games ... He scored a
game-high 46 points in a season-ending playoff loss to Scavolini Pesaro
1988-1989:
The Boston Celtics selected Brian Shaw with the 24th pick in the 1988 NBA Draft. Shaw had been named the Pacific Coast Athletic
Association Player of the Year after his senior season at UC-Santa Barbara ... Shaw was the first Celtics rookie to play in every game
since Kevin McHale did so in the 1980-81 season ... He made 54 starts and earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team after
averaging 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists during the regular season ... Shaw then exploded in the playoffs, averaging 17.0 points
in three games as Boston was swept by eventual NBA-champion Detroit in three games
COLLEGE:
A native of Oakland, California, Shaw first earned notice for his play at UC Santa Barbara. In his senior year, 1987-88, he averaged 13.3
points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.1 assists to earn Pacific Coast Athletic Association Player of the Year honors. He became the first player in
conference history to lead the league in rebounds from the point guard position.
