COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Since entering
the NBA, Davis formed his own foundation, Rising
Stars of America, (www.risingstarsofamerica.org)
which conducts basketball camps and sponsors
AAU teams…the mission of RSOA is to
utilize athletics as a means of teaching ethical
and social values, and life skills through mentorship
and positive role modeling to young
people…aside from RSOA, Davis screened
“Crips and Bloods, Made In America” the documentary
he produced, to members of
Congress in order to promote more funding
for at-risk youth and gang intervention programs…
the film was also recently nominated for an NAACP Image Award and an Emmy
Award in the category of Best Documentary…
Davis’ charity work has also included being an
official member of the governing board of
L.A.’s Best, an organization he was a part of
as a young child…Davis then became an
ambassador in the Darfur Sister School
Project to raise money to improve the educational
experience for children in Darfur
refugee camps…Davis and Derek Fisher of the
Los Angeles Lakers joined Tracy McGrady as
Co-Captains of the Darfur Dream Team, signing
on to this initiative by pledging financial
support and/or dedicating time to working
directly with U.S. sister schools…Davis also
made a $50,000 donation to the American
Red Cross in August of 2005 to help with the
Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort…participated
in the Congressional Black Caucus Annual
Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.,
honoring Hurricane Katrina heroes at a special
lunch with Congressional leaders, and
spoke on a panel to examine African-
American health care issues…through the
Clippers, Davis took part in Teamwork at the
Table Thanksgiving event at St. Joseph Center
in Venice where he helped distribute food baskets
and turkeys to over 300 families…
worked with the Salvation Army Seimon
Family Youth and Community Center to adopt
families and provide them with a holiday dinner
and gift distribution…partnered with Feed
the Children to help feed families in the Los
Angeles area…brought hundreds of kids to
Clippers games as part of his PlayerZone…
and hosted families at his elementary school
for a holiday food and toy distribution…Davis
recently accepted the Lou Dantzler
Humanitarian Award honoring his work and
time spent with youth in the Los Angeles
community on behalf of the Challenger Boys
and Girls Club…
PERSONAL: A native of Los Angeles, Davis grew up in South Central with his grandmother Madea…attended Crossroads High School where he accumulated a myriad of honors, including McDonald’s All-American and Gatorade Player of the Year among others… earned the nickname “Too Easy” while playing in the Entertainer’s Basketball Classic at Rucker Park in Harlem, New York…has appeared in videos by Ja Rule, P. Diddy and Angie Stone…has appeared on the TV shows “Lincoln Heights”, “Props”, “Wheel of Fortune”, “The Weakest Link”, “Arliss” and “The Forgotten”…majored in History at UCLA. |
