The recent success of the Detroit Pistons has made The Palace one of the best locations in Michigan to entertain. Currently riding a string of 88 consecutive sell-outs, the Pistons are again one of the “cool” teams to watch in Detroit, and The Palace has been transformed into a place to do a great deal of business entertaining. The Casino Windsor Club, a private 700-person club that offers upscale in food and beverage, is routinely filled before, during, and after Pistons games. The Palace’s 180 suites (85% capacity leased) are routinely filled with people watching the action, but also engaged in networking and deal-making.
In an effort to continue as an innovative leader, The Palace is undergoing a $25 million improvement, which includes a 60,000 square foot North Entrance expansion which will include a cigar bar, a new retail area, a food court, eight luxury suites and a 900-person capacity restaurant. As part of the expansion, The Palace has also built the Vito Anthony Suites, five ultra-luxurious bunker suites, and the new Key Bank Club, an exclusive, 150-person capacity club adjacent to the new suites.
The suites, which cost between $350,000 and $450,000 per year, are more formal living rooms than usual suites. Using upscale, custom materials and furnishings, each of the suites was individually designed to create a unique and special experience. Some of the best design firms in the area were employed, including Joseph Keenan of Bloomfield Hills, Perlmutter-Freiwald of Franklin, Kennedy & Co. of Grosse Pointe Farms, and Jones Keena & Co. of Birmingham. The entire construction effort was coordinated by Vitro Pampalona of Vito Anthony Homes in Rochester.
Each 400-500 square foot suite, which holds 22 people, has high-end amenities including a 45-inch LCD television, espresso and cappuccino machine, wine chiller, ice-maker, mini-kitchenettes, and powder room. Each suite is assigned a suite captain whose sole purpose is to cater to every need of the suite holder. An additional kitchen and pantry area is also under construction to serve only the suite area.
Each suite comes with four front-row Pistons and Shock VIP seats and eight other prime Pistons and Shock seats within the first five rows of the lower level. Each suite holder receives an allowance of $50,000 for food and $20,000 for tickets to Palace events, in addition to the 12 Pistons tickets for the suite. Suite holders enter the arena through the loading dock, the same entrance the players use, then travel past the visitors locker room, using the same tunnel to the court as players.
All of the five suites have been leased. Palace Sports retains one of the suites and leases it on an event-by-event basis.
The Key Bank Club is adjacent to the suites and is open only to those with front row seats. Its décor feature rich woods, leather furniture, a pool table, a chandelier replica of the PalaceVision screens, and numerous 45” LCD screens. The centerpiece of the club is a translucent onyx bar, which looks like molten lava when illuminated.
The suites and club offer an opportunity to create an unforgettable entertainment experience for you and your client. Picture for a moment that you are entertaining a big client. You get to The Palace and as you enter the loading dock, you realize that Kid Rock is directly in front of you. As you turn to walk down the tunnel to your suite, you brush past Shaquille O’Neal headed to the visitor’s locker room. Having a drink in the Key Bank Club, you notice that Steve Yzerman and Chris Chelios of the Red Wings are holding court at the pool table. After enjoying another Pistons victory from your front row seat, you walk back to the loading dock where you see the Heat players board their team bus and watch the Pistons players signing autographs as they leave.
Sound too good to be true? It’s exactly the experience that Palace Sports & Entertainment is creating at their Vito Anthony Suite and Key Bank Club.
