Ribbon Cutting Will Mark Completion of Widening, Re-Opening of Walton Blvd. in Auburn Hills

Beverly Hills, Mich. - The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will officially re-open Walton Boulevard between Perry Street/Lapeer Road and Squirrel Road in Auburn Hills this Friday, Oct. 17 at 10:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the media are invited to attend.

The road has been closed since March as RCOC widened the formerly two-lane road to five lanes, including replacing the two-lane bridge over I-75 with a new, five-lane bridge. This was the last two-lane bottleneck on Walton between Rochester and Dixie Highway.

While RCOC has been the lead agency on the project, it worked in partnership with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), which owns the bridge over I-75.

The project cost nearly $15.6 million. Funding for this much-needed project was provided through a combination of federal grants obtained by Congressman Joe Knollenberg, as well as a Michigan Jobs Today grant and contributions from RCOC and the City of Auburn Hills.

Congressman Knollenberg and other dignitaries are expected to be on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
