On Tuesday, October 23, starting at 6:00 p.m., The Palace of Auburn Hills will shake, rattle and roll during open auditions for the Detroit Pistons Spare Tires Team. The 2007-08 season marks the fifth year the team has performed at Detroit Pistons games.

Registration begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. at The Palace for males 18 and older and auditions begin shortly, thereafter. Candidates are asked to bring a business resume, recent photo, and proof of ID. Performance commitments are at least once a month and candidates must also commit to several days a month for non-game day practices and appearances.

Asking, “Who are the Spare Tires?” Thinking to yourself, “What is The Palace looking for in members of the team?” Ask no more. To put it mildly, the Spare Tires are a dance group of “larger than life men” that perform at Pistons games throughout the season.

Larger than life can also be described as beefy, brawny, bulky, burly, hefty, husky, oversized, portly, stout or thick - in other words, PHAT. Past routines have included a rendition of “Thriller” for Halloween and Puttin’ on the Ritz” for New Year’s Eve.

Besides an ability to move, a positive attitude, an over abundance of enthusiasm, a sense of humor and a desire to perform, Spare Tires candidates must also possess a willingness to participate in community events and serve as ambassadors for the Detroit Pistons.
