AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has hired Jeff Weltman as Director of Basketball Administration and Michael Curry as assistant coach.

“We are pleased to welcome Jeff Weltman to the Pistons basketball operations staff and also add Michael Curry as a member of our coaching staff,” said Dumars. “Jeff brings a wealth of NBA knowledge with him on the player personnel side and I think that everybody in Detroit knows the type of leadership qualities Michael brings to the table.”

Weltman, 41, joins the Pistons after serving five seasons as assistant general manager with the Denver Nuggets (2001-2006) and 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. He began his NBA career as video coordinator for the Clippers in 1988 and was promoted to director of player personnel in 1994. Weltman will coordinate the team’s draft preparation, organize the club’s scouting efforts and summer league preparation, as well as assist Joe Dumars and John Hammond in player related basketball operations functions.

Curry, 39, re-joins the Pistons organization after serving as Vice President, Player Development for the NBA this past season. Curry played in the NBA for 11 seasons, including two stints with Detroit (1995-97 and 1999-2003), where he was widely respected for his leadership and knowledge of the game. He compiled career averages of 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 667 NBA games and appeared in 36 career playoff games. Curry served as President of the NBA Players Association and earned his Master’s degree in sports management from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2001.
