Pistons vs Maccabi Haifa

Detroit: Maurice Cheeks | Josh Smith | Greg Monroe

Pistons Head Coach Maurice Cheeks

(on first preseason game): “We were just glad to be playing against somebody else; different place other than in the practice facility. For the most part, it went pretty good.”

(On the play of first team): “I liked the commitment on the defense the way we were early on. We didn’t sustain it. Maybe it was kind of tough with such a lopsided score but early on it was good. We just didn’t sustain the way I would like.”

(On Josh Smith taking 3-point shots): “They were pretty stand-still jump shots. Tonight they were pretty rhythm shots. I think you get in trouble when you try to shoot with someone in your face but if you’re shooting three point shots like he was doing tonight, rhythm shots and wide-open shots, I’m very comfortable with that.”

Pistons Forward Josh Smith

(On first preseason game): "Just the way we were able to establish ourselves on the offensive end and creating that chemistry early. We have been beating up on each other for five or six days now and it is good to go out there and play against somebody and see what we have been working on. It looks pretty good so far."

(On team balance): "We just have to keep being unselfish. We should keep playing within the offense and take the right shots. I think we did a great job early getting us established in the low post."

(On defense): "Preaching that we have to be long and athletic and that is what we have been doing. We were keeping those guys out of our paint affecting shots. If they got in there we tried to limit them to one shot and got out and run."

Pistons Forward Greg Monroe

(On the game): “I think we did well. I think I had the right intentions all night. It was a close game, we still got some kinks to work out, but I think it was good for our first game.”

(On defense): “Guys were moving around, guys we’re rotating, guys we’re talking. I think we did a good job. It’s still the first game, we’re not perfect, but I think we played well tonight.”

(On moving the ball): “That’s something that’s going to happen. I think everyone did a good job of moving the ball and taking the right shots.”
