Pistons vs Miami Heat

Detroit: Maurice Cheeks | Andre Drumond
Miami: Erik Spoelstra | James Jones

Pistons Head Coach Maurice Cheeks

(On Pistons and HEAT different styles of play): “That was pretty much the plan was to post the ball and rebound the ball. I think that was our strength is posting the ball with Greg (Monroe) and Andre (Drummond) inside the paint. We looked very good inside the paint. I think that was the thing we talked about before the game is to make sure we put the ball inside and try to guard them on the perimeter. I think that’s where they make their mark at shooting threes. Obviously, LeBron (James) and (Dwyane) Wade and those guys didn’t play a lot of minutes, but that’s what they do, they spread the floor.”

(On the effort tonight): “Guys never quit. We got down 10-11 points and we stayed in the game. We stayed in the game by forcing them to miss shots and the pace of the game. The pace of the game was quick. I thought in the first half, they were a lot more physical than us and they were a lot quicker than we were to the ball. In the second half, I thought we matched all of those things and our energy was a lot better in the second half. The inside play for us allowed us to stay in the game."

Pistons Center Andre Drummond

(On playing with new teammates): “I think the front office did a good job of getting guys that could play with different guys. The guys had to step up today and play positions that they weren’t used to.”

(On playing Miami): “I did some hard work today. We know what we’re up against. They played a hell of a game and we played a hell of a game.

(On starting): “Coming off the bench, starting every night, whenever I get in the game, I know what I need to do to help my team win. It doesn’t matter if I play a lot, play five minutes, two minutes, three minutes, 20 minutes, it doesn’t matter.”

Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra

(On Chris Bosh): “He was finding open shots and gaps. We know he is a terrific shooter, but he is not taking ill-advised shots. He is doing it all within the flow. When the ball moves and you have a player of his skill, and he is open areas and taking open shots, he is one of the best shooters in the league.”

(On Michael Beasley): “He has been making very good progress since he has joined us a few weeks ago. It is not just the baskets that people see, but it is being reactivated in our defensive concepts and how we do things.”

(On James Jones): “Another guy who had a terrific summer. He has really been discipline with his nutrition and his training this summer so he kept his self ready. He is a pro’s pro.”

Heat Guard James Jones

(On game): “Teams are trying to take our guys away. They take (away) CB (Chris Bosh), LeBron (James), and D-Wade (Dwayne Wade) when they are attacking. They are going to leave our shooters open so we have to make those shots.”

(On not playing one dimensional): “I am a player. I just do what coach asks me to do. Depending on what our personnel has, it is not like I cannot do these things, but why replicate it if you have three of the best players.”

(On offseason shooting): “It is just work. I work with the shooters. Me and Ray (Allen), we get a lot of shots up.”
