Postgame Quotes - March 27, 2017

Head Coach Stan Van Gundy

On tonight’s game:

“I thought the game…we had that spurt of turnovers in that second quarter after playing a good game offensively in the first quarter.  I thought our guys fought even when we got way down.  I don’t think the guys gave up the ship…we were bad.  Now even the things we have done well—run back on defense and take care of the ball—we didn’t do well.  Their three main guys all played well.”

 On playing in New York:

“We haven’t played well up here.  0-4 up here this year.  We won one last year.  I don’t have an answer for it but it is obviously bad and if you look at where we are right now.  It is a huge part of where we are right now.”

Detroit Pistons Forward Marcus Morris

On tonight’s game:

“We were making shots but (the) defense wasn’t there.  We missed shots we normally make.”

 On the fourth quarter:

“(We) continued to play hard.  It is hard to come back on a team in the Garden like that.  They played well, hit a lot of tough shots down the stretch and got the win.”

 Detroit Pistons Center Andre Drummond

On the second half:

“We couldn’t recover.  We made a little bit of a run at the end of the game but it wasn’t enough.”

 On tonight’s game:

“I think there were too many turnovers.  Defensively, there was too many little mistakes that bit us and gave them easy baskets.  We weren’t in the right positions sometimes.”

 On the team’s play:

“We really are frustrated at things that are going on.  We need to regroup.  We need this one tomorrow.  We really need this one to stay in this (playoff) race.  I have all of the faith in the world on my teammates.”

New York Knicks Head Coach Jeff Hornacek

On the ball movement:

“It was better tonight.  There were a few more that could have been swung an extra pass.  I thought our defense was pretty good…guys were helping each other out.  Our big guys did a great job of getting up on screens.  Overall, they moved the ball, played defense and they got a win.”

 On the team:

“Guys keep playing, keep fighting.  If guys play like that, and like I said they executed and made extra passes, that is a good sign.  Maybe we can continue that.”

 On the defense:

“Our second halves have been good.  These guys are trying.  We are trying…the guards are trying to put more pressure.  When you score it gets your defense set.  The last few games in the second half we have done a good job scoring so our defense has gotten set up and in position to help each other.”

New York Knicks Guard Derrick Rose

On the defense:

“Getting into the ball, forcing them to take tough shots (and) competing.  We competed very well tonight.  We made sure we communicated the entire night.  With (Andre) Drummond in there we wanted to make sure we got rebounds because he is a force down there.”

 More on the defense:

“It is hard sticking guys one-on-one so we made sure to send their isolation guys to the help.”

 On his play:

“I am doing what the team wants me to do.  Of course the season didn’t go exactly (the way) we wanted.  I can control my work ethic and go as hard as I can as a professional.”

"My baseline is going out there and playing hard every game.  When you have injuries and you miss 200-some games, you are always playing catchup.”

On the rest of the season:

“You have to take these wins and roll with them.  I know the film we have is good but we have to go out there and finish the season strong.”

New York Knicks Forward Carmelo Anthony

On tonight’s game:

“Coming into the game, I think we had in the back of our minds the game we had in Detroit in a couple of weeks ago.  I think we were happy to be off the road trip, back at home.  We had a different intensity, focus, and energy especially in the second half.”

On playing with Derrick Rose and Kristaps Porzingis:

“It is a matter of picking your spots when Derrick is playing the way he did tonight and KP is being aggressive.  Get in where you fit in.”

 More on tonight’s game:

“It was kind of a must win for us…for the morale of the team.  Mentally, we really needed this win especially in this locker room.  Getting that winning feeling back…here at home…I think we missed that.”

 On the fans:

“Those are the fans we appreciate.  No matter the situation and what is going on they are there standing up.  Those are the fans who we appreciate.”
