Detroit Pistons Head Coach Stan Van Gundy
(To go down 24-4 [to start the game], how tough is it to dig out of a hole like that?) Obviously, it was very difficult. We weren't ready to play. I don't think I've ever coached a game where one team’s effort was that much better than my team’s effort. They played so much harder than us. It was embarrassing and humiliating. I'm embarrassed, as a coach, that I did that poor of a job and if they aren't embarrassed, they don’t belong in the NBA.
(8-44, I believe, your perimeter guys were [from the floor]…) Yes, that's exactly what they were. I can live with that. It’s terrible and we probably can't win with that, but I can live with it. The lack of effort to take care of the ball, the lack of screening to execute, the lack of speed up and down the floor, just the total lack of effort, I can't live with that.
Detroit Pistons Forward Greg Monroe
(Obviously, a disappointing performance tonight. How do you explain the lack of energy at the start, with [the Sixers] going up by 20?) They just came out and they wanted to win the game more than us.
(Stan [Van Gundy] said it was embarrassing and humiliating. Is that the same feeling you guys got?) Yeah. You can lose for other reasons, but just to come out and not play, basically, is frustrating and embarrassing.
Sixers Head Coach Brett Brown
(On the Sixers' overall performance) 69 points against any NBA team is a fantastic effort. The 69 points is fantastic but the layers underneath it, I think, from the rebounding margin—to win the rebounding game like we did and contest the three-point line like we did was fantastic.
(On Michael Carter-Williams being a "true" point guard) His presence on the court and the size—he’s 6’6—and when he gets a smaller guard, of which there are many, on his hip pocket and he can pass and play like he did and walk a game down. That’s a special quality for a young point guard. He ran the team and controlled the tempo.
Sixers Guard Michael Carter-Williams
(On finishing a complete game): They made a little bit of a run and we came together as a team and didn’t panic and we stayed poised. It was definitely a great team effort and a great team win.
(On the Sixers’ run to start the game): We got stops. Nerlens [Noel] had some great blocked shots, we had some steals, and we got the rebounds and got to run. That’s our game. That’s what we want to do. We want to run and get open shots.
